Hey so... A month has happened...
How are you all?
I know, not my greatest showcase of commitment to this project so far, but hey, in my defense, I forgot about it.
Alright so... What happened during all this time? Huhmmm...
To summarize, I took the physics test, it was very bad. I went for the previously mentioned stroll with a certain girl (we didn't really hit it off, but I got some bubble tea so it was worth it), went to the house of a friend of the people I go to the library with, and tomorrow some people are coming to my house to watch a movie (You will probably see a certain counter in this page go up by one digit...).
So yeah, pretty mild stuff, right?
Well I purposefully skipped a certain thing just for the reveal I'm about to drop right now:
I FINALLY got into MIITOPIA and I LOVE IT
...
Alright yeah, you are probably pretty unshook by this revelation. Confused, even.
And like, yeah it's probably a valid reaction
But yeah this is my blog so you will have to handle-
DIMITRIJE'S MIITOPIA BACKSTORY
Alright so, my obsession with Miis goes back to when I got a Wii console, probably around... 2013 maybe. Wow I'm feeling old. So yeah.
I'm assuming you all know what a Wii is, if you don't, well, I feel kind of bad for you. Only slightly.
That right there is a Wii console
It's the only console my family had when I was younger. And my mom was really not at all into us playing videogames, so we were only bought a single game, besides the ones that came with the console already. Sure, we were sometimes allowed to rent games, but during the times where there were only two games in the console, one being a party game and the other one a sandbox, I used to spend a lot of time in a magical place, the one refered to as the Mii Channel.
Needles to say, it was great. I spent lots of mornings just making cartoonish approximations of classmates and family members, making the ugliest guy possible like one would do when playing ARK Survival or smth, some fictional characters... Something I liked to do was to make my Mii slightly taller each week. I had to scratch that idea when it turned into a competition with my sister, both Miis becoming abnormaly large during the span of a few days.
The problem for me was though, what lied between the Mii making. The Mii plaza.
The Mii Plaza, at least for the Wii was a barren wasteland of some sort where all of your creations would slowly fill the place and stumble around. And what do they do then? Well... Not much. They waddle about, sporadically... I think I saw one sneeze once...
So yeah, not that exciting. However, my dumb 8 years old-ish ass didn't even bother to try and process that. I started to lose my mind as I sat in front of this plaza like a psychopath, just watching them stroll from left to right, asking myself if there was something else, anything. Maybe if I waited enough something would happen. So yeah, I was weird as a kid.
... And then Tomodachi Life came out in my country.
Younger me pretty much started tweaking out when he saw the first advert on TV. It was like the Mii Plaza, but the Miis actually TALK between EACHOTHER? And they can DATE??
I was inmediately sold. And since then, my quest to get my hands on a Nintendo 3DS started
I tried everything. I asked for it before birthdays, christmas festivities, when blowing candles, when seeing shooting stars or other form of mythical wish-related fenomenon... I think I mentioned it in a prayer once or twice. I tried to not make it a big thing, but it was definitely there, y'know? Like "-and please let our family be safe. By the way if you ever have a spare 3DS I have lots of empty space in my desk, amen." I'm pretty sure I one time annoyed a girl into leaving afternoon music classes after asking to borrow her 3DS like every 5 minutes or so. Huh.
So yeah, I didn't ever get my hands on a 3DS actually. Coincidentally enough, I think this morning might have been the first time I layed my hands upon one. (Only for less than a minute, but it counts.)
So, how did I get the game then? Well yeah, of course I used the Citra emulator. It might have been banned a month ago, but I still had the files lying around somewhere. Maybe it's not the most optimal startegy, for several reasons, but what can one do about it.
The thing is, when I was getting Tomodachi Life for the thing, I also spotted the pseudo sequel title. Miitopia. I had also known about that one for a long time, but didn't really pay attention to it, since the concept seemed kinda barebones for me, so when installing the first game I got it, but as a bonus kind of thing. Didn't even try it until a week later.
And hoo boy do I not regret trying it out.
The thing with Miitopia is that, sure, the concept is kinda basic, it being "RPG but you slap some faces onto the characters.", but I think what truly elevates this game is the tiny details, and the subversions of the game genre. They take a lot to kick in, but believe me, when they do it's amazing.
The game seems kind of repetitive at first. Each world you start anew at level 1, with a new class and a new set of three companions, then at the end of the world your progress in unceremoniously yanked and placed out of your reach. This is probably the reason I took so long to actually fully enjoy it. For context, this is my third playthrough. On the first playthrough I got bored on world 3. Second playthrough, Citra completely broke after reaching world 3, game save lost.
This time I got past world 3 and yeah, I was starting to get a bit bored... But then, the game takes everything it built previously and just THROWS it out the window. Then it goes outside, eats all the broken shards of gameplay and chews for a bit before injecting it right into your veins. That's how the 4th chapter feels after the monotony of the previous chapters. And I think it's mostly because at that point, you stop seeing the game as an RPG, and more as a story. Like sure, the battles were already as simplified as it gets, and now you don't even get to act half the time because you're watching the other half of your party make their way around the map. But if you're like me, you won't even care, because you can spend your time just watching Luigi and a guy from your university class dance after beating a frog to death with a pan and a large stick.
So yeah, I am so overjoyed by this game, and extremely relieved that there are still 2 chapters or so left, according to some internet forum.
I'll definitely rant more after I get farther into the game. But for now, I bid you all farewell.
OH, BY THE WAY!
